The number of downloads of Firefox browser has crossed 200 million by the end of 2006. It is estimated that 1,000 to 2,000 people have contributed in the development of firefox and more than 80,000 people help in spreading the browser. The major supporter of firefox is Google, which everyone knows. Do you ever think why Google supports firefox and how an opensource software is competing with software giant Microsoft?s Internet Explorer? The reason why Google supports firefox is because; the default search engine of firefox is Google. There is also an additional search toolbar with Firefox to search Google. When firefox user searches through toolbar or by default search engine and clicks on the advertisement at the search result page of google, then Mozilla foundation that developed firefox will be paid. The revenue of Mozilla foundation from firefox is nearly $6 million by 2004 and it is $52 million by 2005. The revenue figure of 2006 is not yet made to public. But it was estimated to be more than $100 million. This revenue of Mozilla is due to the Google Agreement. Google has similar agreement with Apple?s Safari browser too. With more than 200 million users, just imagine the revenue figure of Mozilla in 2007.

Mozilla now don?t know what to do with the money from Firefox. The Mozilla foundation is now looking for a new executive director to invest the revenues from firefox in worthy projects. A foundation with more revenues doesn?t know what to do with the money. What do you feel about this?
