How to be a HERO Blogger from a ZERO Blogger

On August 02, 2007 in Adsense, Beginner's Guides, Blogging, Make Money Online, Traffic Building

If you have started a new blog or you?re already a blog geek or thinking about starting a blog, there are things which you still want to know about blogging. This article may help you know some new ideas about blogging. Here are the stages of a blog and the ideas for monetization of a blog at different stages.

Crawling stage of a blog:

This stage is very important for every blog. At this stage every blogger is eager to take his/her blog to its next level. This is the stage where you?ve to concentrate on quality posts and SEO. At this stage you get the new visitors who are the source for your future traffic. If you impressed your new visitors at this stage they will publicize your blog by linking to your valuable posts (If it has a real value).

Blogging- Zero to Hero

There are some steps to be followed at this stage.

  1. Write at least 5 pillar articles in your blog. Pillar articles are the articles which are the foundations of your blog. These articles are often liked by the readers and other bloggers will link to it from their blogs. Search for ?Pillar Article? at google to know more about it.
  2. Don?t expect income from your blog at this stage. In any business it is impossible to generate revenue at its starting stage. Blogging is also a business.
  3. Don?t litter your blog with advertisements. Concentrate only on quality of the posts.
  4. Visit blogs related to your niche and learn what they are doing at their blogs and why people like those blogs. Look at those blogs in a reader?s view and also in a blogger?s view.
  5. Post valuable comments in all blogs you frequently visit. This will give exposure to your blog among the people who blog about your niche.
  6. If there is Top Commentators plug-in installed in other blogs try to have your name in the top list.
  7. Participate in blog contests. This will get you backlinks and may be some cash or prize. But post the review before posting a quality post. This will reduce the visibility of reviews so that your blog don?t look like a blog meant only for reviews.
  8. Participate in blogcarnivals. Visit www.blogcarnival.com and search for the carnival related to your blog. Submit the link to your blog post which fits best to the carnival. Carnivals will bring targeted traffic and also get backlinks.
  9. Submit your blog to directories. Don?t pay for directory submission. Use Free Directory Submitter to submit your blog semi-automatically. Read the post http://www.aruntheace.com/link-building-for-new-blogs-part-1/ to know more about directory submission.
  10. Write a useful article in your niche and submit it to various article directories. Use Free Article Submitter to submit your article semi-automatically. This will bring tons of traffic if your article is really good. Read the post http://www.aruntheace.com/link-building-for-new-blogs-part-2/ to know more about article submission.
  11. ?Don?t expect income from your blog at this stage?- This doesn?t mean that not to have any advertisement at your blog. It means you should not expect the performance of your ads at this stage. You can have Adsense and Kontera in your blog at this stage. At this stage the income from your blog is very low. Obviously a blog with less traffic generates less income.
  12. Get a MyBlogLog account and create a MyBlogLog community. Place recent visitors widget from MyBlogLog and personally send thanks to all the people who visited your blog using MyBlogLog. This?ll bring some traffic.
  13. Link to other blogs in your niche and ask them for link exchange by personally sending an e-mail to them.
  14. You must have a contact page at your blog. This make your visitors trust you because you?re at a reaching distance to them.
  15. Have an About page in your blog and describe about you. It is better to have your photo at the about page.
  16. If possible conduct a contest at your blog and send emails to other blogs about your contest. This will bring nice traffic to your blog. Visit “The Golden Egg Contest” to know about the contest at this blog.

If you follow all the above steps, with in three months you?ll get at least a PR2 and also some nice traffic to your blog. Don?t have a fear about not having experience in blogging. Remember ?Sometimes Interest can do better than Experience?. Read the rest of this entry »

Link Building for New Blogs -Part 1

On July 22, 2007 in Beginner's Guides, SEO, Traffic Building

Link Popularity is one of the most important offpage factor in SEO. Link popularity directly relates with the PageRank and top Search Engine Position. Link popularity is the count of websites that points to your website. Link building is one of the difficult and time consuming parts in Search Engine Optimization. There are two types of links.

One way Link:
These are links that points only to your website without having any link from your website. X links to Y and Y don?t have any link to X.

Reciprocal Link:
These are links which are exchanged between two websites. X links to Y and Y links to X.
While building links it is must to have links from Quality websites. There are many chances for getting penalized by search engines :ban:, if you have links from poor websites.

Why it is hard for a new blogger to build links?

  1. With no Pagerank other blogs won?t link you.
  2. Popular blogs expect links from other blogs with high traffic.
  3. You can get links only from other new blogs which may be a poor link.

How a new blogger can build links?

Web Directories:

Submitting to Web directories will get quality links for your blog. There are many directories where you can get one way links. Here is a list of FREE Non-Reciprocal directories. Start building links from the very first day you started your blog. Do this process steadily and slowly.

Here are some Blog Directories where you can submit your blog to get some targeted traffic.

www.bloggernity.com
www.blogz-search.com
www.blogrankings.com
www.blogcatalog.com/directory

You can also get a FREE Directory Submitter which lets you submit your blog to more than 400 directories semi-automatically. In my next post about Link Building, I will tell about Submitting articles for Building links:smile:.

Adsense Guide2: Getting more from Adsense

On July 18, 2007 in Adsense, Beginner's Guides

Now you?ve a website ready with adsense and you?re making money from it. What you did till now to generate income from adsense is just Copy & Paste the ad code and placed it in your website. Right?

Be honest and tell, are you earning more from Adsense? Maybe you are lucky and you can get more clicks. But to make serious income from adsense, you need to do some tweaks. Here I discussed some tweaks to double your adsense income.

The Color of the Ad matters

Match the adsense ads to the theme of your website. Keep the background of the ad as your website?s background. Remove the border of the Ad. Match the color of the links to the rest of the links in your website. This tweak will greatly improve your clickthroughs.

Ad placement

After tweaking the color of the ad, you?ve to place your ads in correct position.

These are some basic and general Ad placement ideas. But it differs website to website. So, test your ad in different positions and choose the one, which performs well.

Use Ad Units

Most of the people are not serious about the income potential of Ad-Units. If you have an ad unit with 4 topics then you?re serving 4X10=40 ads. If any of your visitor click on the ad unit, then there are more chances for him/her to click on any one ad among the 10ads displayed. Just give a try with Ad-Units and see its income potential. I suggest you this because this trick worked fine for me.

Making money from Search

Webmasters use this rarely. Because the chances for a visitor to search from your website is very less. Don?t think like this. If a visitor searches from your site then your ads will be displayed till that session ends. So if he/she searches 1 time or 10 times in google, the ads served will be yours. So give a try to search box.

Create channels for each website and test which is performing well and follow it. These tips will help you earn more from Adsense.

Adsense Guide1: Adsense for beginners

On July 18, 2007 in Adsense, Beginner's Guides, Blogging, Make Money Online

What is Adsense?

Adsense is an advertising program from Google. Adsense offers an opportunity to website/blog owners of any size, to make money by placing advertisements on their pages.

The working principle of Adsense is like this- The website/blog owners have to place the adsense ad code on their pages along with the content. Google will read the content and display relevant advertisements. Since the advertisements are relevant to the content, they may attract the visitors. If any visitor clicks on the advertisement, google will get money from the advertiser for the click and share it with the website/blog owner.

To make money with Adsense you need a website or blog. After creating such one you have to apply for Adsense. Within 1-3 days you will be approved or rejected. Only if your website/blog is very bad then google will reject you. It is easy to get approved by google. So, I don?t want to tell more about ?How to get approved by google adsense??. If you have a problem in getting approved by google adsense, just comment here with your e-mail. I will assist you to get approved.

After getting approved by adsense log-on to your account and look around. There are three tabs ?Reports?, ?Adsense Setup? and ?My Account?.

Reports tab is used to view the performance of your websites. Here you have to know about three terms.

Impressions: This is the number of times your webpage with adsense is viewed. Your CTR (discussed below) will be more if the impressions are more. If your website?s traffic increases then the impressions will increase.

Clickthroughs (CTR): This is the percentage of visitors clicked on the advertisements.

Effective CPM (eCPM): This is a calculation that how much you will get for thousand clicks (in average).

To make adsense advertisements to your website just go to Adsense Setup. You can earn from the following options.

From content ads, link units, for search and for referrals. All you have to do is, just copy the ad code generated and place it in your website where you want to display the ads.

Content ads and Link units: You can get the ad code after selecting color for your ad units. Select colors which match to your website. Use your creativity here. There are many ad formats to select with. Select the one which suits you.

Search: You can get the search code here. If someone searches from your website and clicked on any advertisement in the search result page, you?ll be paid. You can also use this tool to search within your website.

Referrals: You can promote products like firefox, Adsense or Adwords. You have different buttons to select with.

Add your website to URL channels to view its performance. If you explorer more within your adsense page, you?ll be clear with how to use adsense within your page.

Visit Google Adsense?s official blog if you?ve any doubts.

Blogging Guide - A guide for beginners to make money from blogging

On July 18, 2007 in Beginner's Guides, Blogging, Make Money Online

Blogging is a hobby which brings in revenue. Making money from blog sounds like an easy job. But it is not that easy and even it is not hard too. Here is a guide for beginners to Blogging.

What is a blog?

?A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order? ? this is how a blog is defined by Wikipedia. A blog is just a collection of your views towards something. Others will see your views and comment on it. Simple ah!

Decide your subject

It?s very easy to start a blog. Before starting a blog, you have to decide about the subject in which your blog will be. In my view this is the most difficult part. Select a subject in which you are most familiar with. There?s no need that your topic should be technical. You can also post your daily habits as writing in a dairy. What all needed is interesting content, which make your visitors to be in your blog.

Create your blog

Starting a blog is completely free. As a beginner I suggest you to start a blog with www.blogger.com. You need a Google account to start your blog at blogger. This is an easy part and I don?t want to tell these basic things and we?ll skip them.

Select a proper name for your blog. Your blog name should be related to your subject. Now your blog is ready for posts.

Write a post

Write an article about your subject. Write it in an interesting manner. I suggest you to use a text editor with built-in spell checker. This will be very helpful to avoid spelling and grammar mistakes. I use ms-word while writing my article. After writing the article, check it twice before posting. Keep writing posts with 300-1000 words. The length of the post is not a matter if it is interesting. Your visitor will not waste time in reading lengthy posts. All your visitor need is something interesting. Keep this in mind while writing your post.

Make money with your blog

Making money with your blog is the great part in blogging. There are many income sources for a blog. Here are some of my money makers for beginners.

Google Adsense

Adsense is an advertising program from Google. After posting 5-6 articles in your blog apply to Adsense. Your application will be reviewed and you will be approved or rejected within 1-3 days. Know more about Adsense before applying for it.

AuctionAds

Auctionads is an affiliate network which promotes ebay products through your website/blog. You will get $5 just for signing up with auctionads.

Bidvertiser

If you are rejected by Adsense then I suggest you to come to bidvertiser. This is a network similar to Adsense. The minimum payout is $10 which is attractive.

These income sources are enough for a beginner. After doing experiments with these sources you can search for other.

Getting traffic to your blog

Getting traffic to your blog is the difficult part unless you work at least an hour a day with your blog. As a beginner I suggest you to post your blog in social networking websites like orkut, mylot or myspace.

There arise many doubts in your mind after reading this guide. You can get a clear picture about blogging if you start your blog and do the experiments practically. Even then if you are not clear, post your doubt as comment. I will help you clear your doubt.
